Photographed moments before sundown, in late August, in the northeastern quadrant of Yellowstone National Park. View toward the northeast from an elevation of 6,245 feet. Gunsight Peak and Cutoff Mountain (elevation 10,691 feet), on the far horizon and about 15 miles distant, are in in Montana, their ridge lines constituting a portion of Yellowstone’s northern boundary. Glacial erratic boulders and a glacial kettle pond are in the foreground.
