MT. REPUBLIC
SODA BUTTE CREEK, MONTANA
Photographed from Silver Gate, Montana in the early morning of October 16, 1996, view toward the southeast. This snow, which began the previous day, was the beginning of one of the most severe winters on record in the Beartooths – with continuous snow cover remaining from the middle of October until well into the next June. Mt. Republic (elevation 10,166 feet) is actually located just south of the state boundary in Wyoming.
