EVENING STORM, BEARTOOTH RANGE
DRUID PEAK, LAMAR VALLEY, WYOMING
Photographed in northeastern Yellowstone National Park moments before sundown in early July 1993. This was the coldest summer throughout the region recorded in modern times (since the late 19th century). July frosts have already turned the foliage a golden autumn hue. The massive Beartooth Mountains to the northwest, and directly upwind during prevailing climate patterns, generate fierce weather systems at this northern temperate latitude.
